Directions to Hilliard's Hippie Haven
And
here's how to get to Hilliard's Hippie Haven by the Rideau!
From Ogdensburg, head north and cross the bridge!
(I should warn you that it's got a grate roadway. It'll make your
bike jiggle a bit but there'll be no problem if you'll just keep a
relaxed hold on the handlebar as it moves a fraction one way then
back the other. I do it with no problems at speeds from 20 mph to
60 mph, if that's any recommendation. ;>) On the Canadian
side, follow the signs to take
Hwy. 416 North. It's a 4-laner no-brainer and may make a nice
change of pace for you. Watch for and take the exit for
Hwy. 43 to Kemptville. It'll take you through Kemptville and on
to Merrickville. Just before you get to Merrickville, take the
2nd right for CR 23 (CR meaning County Road). On CR 23, keep
an eye out for a white sign with black lettering indicating
"Spillway Farm" and that'll be Paul Hilliard's place. Those of you
who've been there before will probably recognize it on sight. In
fact, since I've just told you what's on the white sign, even those
who've not been there before will recognize it on sight!
Now, for those who are going on to the Best Western Motel in Smiths Falls
instead of to Furface's place, just stay on 43 right into
Merrickville and keep following the Hwy. 43 signs. You'll end up
turning right at the main intersection with the flashing light,
crossing the locks, and turning left at the stop sign, and on into
Smiths Falls some 18 or so minutes later.
Keep on following the signs for Hwy. 43 until you pick up the signs
for Hwy. 15 South (toward Kingston). Best Western Motel will be on your
right BEFORE you get out of the other side of Smiths Falls. If you
miss the motel and come out the other side of town, begin this
year's U-Turn practice and head back into Smiths Falls ...
whereupon the
Best Western Motel
will be on your left coming back in.
